​In response to increased requests from our 2000+ brides and grooms … here are some current options regarding your original wedding negatives:

All weddings prior to about 2001 were photographed using then ‘state of the art’ Hasselblad cameras and professional grade medium format  films (mostly Kodak and/or Fuji).

This provided the finest photographic imaging of the era.  

Why did we use the less common, more expensive medium format films ?  Quality.  
A 35mm negative is 24mm x 36mm in size, or 864 square millimeters maximum.  
A medium format negative is 62mm x 62mm, or 3844 square millimeters.  
​This is over 4 times larger, allowing for significant enlargement, cropping and overall image enhancement.

Electronic, or digital imaging technology began in the late 1990’s … but hadn’t achieved professional quality or acceptance until the early 2000’s.   

Digital imaging advanced rapidly … literally surpassing film in the course of a decade.  The ‘look’ of digital can still be a bit different than traditional chemical based film imaging … but even the artistic ‘look and feel’ has come a long way … with electronic imaging now emulating different film types.

So … where does this leave you and I when it comes to the life-time memories created on film ?

The answers are several:

-    if the film was a 35mm type, some companies and labs continue to make prints … even Costco / Sam’s Club and WalMart provide some 35mm film services.  As a consumer, do be aware that these types of services are frequently ‘outsourced’ to a central or regional processing facility (they may not be processed at the store where you leave your negatives).

-    very few processing laboratories accept or print from other film sizes … which means the options for reprinting from professional negatives becomes more limited over time.

-    even fewer labs do any chemical based photo imaging.  The very first thing that is done, either with freshly processed film or previously processed film … is to digitize each image.  Once digitized, prints are then made via one of several different computer based electron printing techniques, anything from do-it-yourself at home prints to ultra high grade dye-sublimation photo grade printing.

-    while Darel Roa Photography has continued to honor our pledge to archive the weddings we’ve photographed, the changes in technology have altered the usefulness of archived (stored) negative files.

-    We have recently made special arrangements with a high end photo laboratory to digitize professional grade negatives.  Once scanned and digitized, this opens up new options for your life-time wedding images.

    1)    they will now be preserved on electronic media (CD / DVD / flash drives / hard drives).

    2)    they can easily be shared on social media 

    3)    they can be readily reprinted however and wherever you wish

    4)    they can be further enhanced via a plethora of modern software options … either by our talented artists or by yourself.

    5)    the opportunity to design or redesign a completely new wedding album, coffee table book, gifts and other enjoyable items becomes practical

What does this cost ?

Frankly, it isn’t inexpensive (cheap) … but does require a one-time investment.  Fees are based on a sliding scale … digitizing a small number of images is pricier than digitizing the entire wedding.

$  50.    per negative / image for the first two  ($ 100. minimum order please).

$  35.    per negative / image when 10 or more are ordered at the same time

$  25.    per negative / image when 40 or more are ordered at the same time

$  15.    per negative / image when 60 or more are ordered at the same time

THIS INCLUDES the copyright release so that you may legally reproduce the images.

Each archived wedding file is different.  Some have 50 - 70 negative images … some have closer to 100 … some larger weddings have closer to 150 negative images.
(If you prefer to purchase all the negatives in your file without scans they may be purchased for $150)
